Susceptibility to varicose
veins increases with age and is most common with women.
You may get varicose veins if any of the factors below apply:
Hormonal changes during
pregnancy, pre-menstruation, or menopause may be a factor.
Genetics are sometimes a
factor. If family members have varicose veins then it
increases the odds that you will.
Being overweight increases the
odds, as the extra weight adds pressure to your veins.
Standing for long periods of
time. You should avoid standing unless you absolutely have to.
The most influential factor is
age. Aging causes wear and tear on the valves in your veins.
