What is a Varicose Vein?:

A varicose vein is a non serious medical condition. Often the only problem they cause is unsightliness. They are veins that have become enlarged with extra blood. The most commonly affected veins are those of the legs and feet. The reason behind this is that the pressure on these veins is greatest from your walking upright

Varicose veins are also often called spider veins. They are often red or blue. The reason behind the name spider is that they often appear to resemble a tree branch or a spider's web.

Normally varicose veins do not require medical assistance. The only time you should seek urgent attention is if you experience sudden swelling in your leg as this may signify a blood clot, which is medically recognized as thrombophlebitis.
